St. John’s, NL
The Luxus hotel is a boutique hotel in the heart of the historic downtown on Water Street. The mid 20th century concrete building had seen many renovations over the years, our focus was to strip off the many layers to restore the building as closely as possible to its original state. Extensive consultation was necessary to meet the city and associated advisory committees’ desires for building within a heritage zone. We worked with the authorities and client to arrive at a solution that was sensible to all involved.
Fougere Menchenton provided both architectural and interior design services for this project. The well-proportioned existing building gives space for six generous hotel rooms, including some two room suites. Our client wanted the hotel to be associated with luxury and the finer things in life. To achieve that vision, every detail was considered from opulent fossilized onyx sinks to the high gloss walnut paneling. The hotel’s luxury is balanced by a comfortable and approachable feel. The scale and materials of each room are carefully considered to feel generous but also comfortable and intimate. There are a number of things that you won’t see when you are in the Luxus, but you’ll feel. The bathroom floors and heated and the walls are sound proofed to a higher rating than even measured in the National Building Code. From the reviews we’ve heard thus far, it seems the Luxus has set itself apart from the rest!
