Choices for Youth
St. John’s, NL (Pleasantville)

An ambitious collaborative project between Choices for Youth, Daybreak Parent Child Centre, Eastern Health, Service Canada and the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing and Homelessness Network, this centre is conceived of to give young parents all the support they need in raising children. Stakeholders and users were very involved throughout the design process identifying visibility, security, maintenance and identity as important design considerations. Fougere Menchenton carefully used material and building articulation to break down the scale of the building. It was important to those involved that the buildings have a comfortable rather than institutional feeling. The interior spaces are carefully organized to provide separation where necessary while maintaining connection. The lounges, meeting spaces and generous corridors aim to facilitate both formal and informal interaction encouraging a sense of community.

Choices for Youth is currently fundraising for the project. You can support the organization here. https://choices-youth.squarespace.com/donate/
